The algae collection at Chrysler Herbarium includes macro-algae specimens collected around the world, and includes Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Rhodophyta and other major groups. Many specimens were collected during expeditions in the middle of the 1900s. Previous Rutgers professor Edwin T Moul is one of the major collectors.
Algal specimens are mounted on herbarium sheets and stored in folders within sealed metal herbarium cabinets. They are organized by order, and then within each order alphabetically by family. Within each family, genera are arranged alphabetically, and within each genus, species are also arranged alphabetically. The whole collection is digitized.
